On to Arizona!

I have already posted some of these photos on Facebook, so some may be familiar to you.

Our next stop after Palm Springs was Yuma, Arizona.  We stayed for three days, only because it rained a tiny bit for two days, and Lee doesn't like to drive in the rain.  The motorhome gets dirty.  It was the type of rain where you don't need an umbrella, because the water dries as soon as it hits.

Anyway, Yuma is right across the border from California, and the Colorado River runs along the west side of the city.  This far south, it doesn't look like the type of river that can provide water for millions of people.  It looks quite benign!

Here is one of the canals that takes water from the Colorado River.  California has many canals like this, especially in the Central Valley and southern California, where water is scarce and rivers are seasonal.  They are not always this full, however.

 

Yuma is not a large city, but it does have a shopping mall with a JCPenney and Dillard's.  We wandered through Dillard's and saw the following:

Lee wondered why in the world would people wear spiked heels in the desert?  There were lots of fancy dresses too.  It's not like Yuma has an opera house or large cultural center of any kind, and the next largest cities are three hours away.   I don't quite get it.  And then there were the Uggs.  Why?  It is one of the mysteries of the universe.

The mountains in southern Arizona are interesting, and because it rained the day before, the desert is turning green.  The next couple of photos were taken on the road, heading to Tucson:

I love this mountain.  I remember it from two years ago when we drove through here, on I-10.
